Stainless steel pots are very common items in the kitchen of a family, but do you how to choose? The article below will give you advice on how to buy them, and where to buy the good and cheap ones?
Stainless steel pots can be found everywhere in the kitchen, especially for those who cook on a gas stove. However, knowing how to buy a good-quality stainless steel pot is as of great importance as buying furniture for the house. Therefore, this article will show you some tips on how to select suitable stainless steel pots, whose stainless steel pots to be worth buying, and where to buy cheap stainless steel pots with quality assurance for your reference.
Selecting a stainless steel pot for the cooker or stove
To start with, decide which stove that your family uses. A gas stove, an induction cooker, an electric cooker, a ceramic cooker, or a halogen cooker? You can choose the suitable type of stainless steel pots.
Selecting a good stainless steel pot set is not too difficult if you use a gas stove, as basically all stainless steel pot sets are designed for gas stoves, whether it be single-layer bottom, 3-stepped bottom or 5-stepped bottom.
If you expect to use a stainless steel pot set on an induction cooker, however, please consider carefully when making your purchase, as not all stainless steel pot sets can work on such a cooker. Only stainless steel pot sets with bottoms made of magnetic materials are available, like stainless steel 430.
Choosing the material of stainless steel
A variety of metals make stainless steel, including nickel, chromium, copper, iron, carbon, etc., thus the quality and durability of stainless steel depends on the proportion of these very elements.
These are the three kinds of stainless steel that are widely used to produce stainless steel cookware, pots and pans in the market:
STAINLESS STEEL 210: it has 18% chromium and 3% nickel. The pros of stainless steel 210 are that it does not react with food, is safe to use and is at low cost, while the cons are that it is easy to oxidize, and cannot be used on an induction cooker.
STAINLESS STEEL 304: it has 18% chromium and 10% nickel. The advantage of stainless steel 304 is that it is not easy to oxidize. It is the best type of stainless steel; the most durability, the highest oxidization resistance, and thus the highest cost. But you need to know that stainless steel 304 is not magnetic, so it cannot be directly used on an induction cooker.
STAINLESS STEEL 430: it has 18% chromium and 0.75% nickel. It does not react with food too, so it is safe to use but not expensive, while it is easily oxidized, which is similar to stainless steel 210. Stainless steel 430 itself is magnetic, therefore it is widely used to make the bottom part of stainless steel cookware, pots and pans for the induction cooker.
Selecting the bottom of stainless steel pots
These are the three common steps’ quantities of bottoms sets that are widely used for stainless steel cookware, pots and pans:
SINGLE-LAYER BOTTOM: The single-layer bottom of a stainless steel pot is like the wall of the pot, whose thickness is usually around 0.5mm. Such a bottom of the pot can apparently conduct heat very quickly, but in an uneven way, causing the food inside to get easily burnt. Thus it is suitable for cooking, but not suitable for frying and stir-frying.
THREE-STEPPED BOTTOM / FIVE-STEPPED BOTTOM: The bottom is composed of two layers of aluminum with a layer of iron in between, which helps to conduct heat evenly and better. Thus such pots can be used in a more widely range than those with a single-layer bottom.
Selecting a stainless steel pot set rather than individuals
It is highly suggested that you should buy a full set rather than individuals when you want a stainless steel pot. This is because the items in a full stainless steel pot set are designed at a variety of sizes and at different capacities. Moreover, buying a full stainless steel pot set will be cheaper than buying individual pot one after one.
